The Ultimate Challenge: The Front Face of Timberwolf Mountain!

So we’ve all looked at it from the door to the Mountaineers Hut the imposing front face of Timberwolf Mountain.

For some of us, myself included, it took a very long time to even figure out the regular route up the mountain. In doing so we experienced the bounty of the tail section!

There are a breed of explorers that love to visit the Tail Section as much as possible and play the Hopeless Rescue Challenge just to visit. Every. Other. Day.

Beyond that though are those of us who have gazed upon the front face and said to ourselves: “There must be a way!”

Well…

By watching a video and then self-experimenting I can officially tell you that there is a way. I can also tell you that the very start of the route you must be entirely pixel perfect!

If you have a short temper your attempt at the front face will not last very long at all.

So Where Does the Front Face Assault Begin?

Remember the lovely picture at the start of this article? Well you need to head up the frozen stream to the left of that picture. Not off the screen to the left, the one you can see.

As you climb up this frozen stream you will eventually come up to a point with a snowy slope off to the right. Turn right just after the rock in the picture below.

This leads up to a plateau on which resides bunnies, saplings and a wolf. You want to follow this around and then up a snow covered path, up past a deer carcass, the front face of the mountain is directly to your right.

After you pass the engine you will see a cave on the right, it is by a slop to the left of this cave entrance that you can begin your attack on the Front Face of Timberwolf Mountain!

That is if you have incredible amounts of patience, good clothing and a whole lot of time- oh and nice weather! Why you ask? Why let this video show you!

So clearly from watching the end of this video I’ve made it, at a guess half-way up the front face of Timberwolf Mountain. There is a 3 video set of someone summit-ting the Mountain without the use of ropes- unfortunately there seems to be a section of the traversal missing from where Part One ends and Part Two begins!

And I have only made it past the pixel perfect start a total of 3 times…and each time I managed to make it to the resting ledge shown at the end of the first video.

Will I try again, you betcha since it sure seems like the vertiginous heights are indeed traverse-able!

For reference, here’s Farrgin Ice Hole’s Youtube page with his 3 videos:

It appears to be the Ultimate Challenge, so shall we try and do it ourselves?!

I think we should!

Good Luck!
